Montauk Manor News Fall 2023
Dear Homeowners,
Fall officially arrived on September 23rd this year. Summer is over and the kids are back in school. As you know, for most of the country this was the hottest Summer on record. Montauk, as always, was comfortable, having mild temperatures and cooling ocean breezes throughout July and August due to our being surrounded on three sides by water. If you didn’t get the opportunity to visit The Manor this Summer, Fall is always a nice time of year out here. You don’t have to go to Vermont to see great Fall foliage and a walk along an empty beach can be a special time. For your dining pleasure, Monte’s At The Manor is now open for breakfast, lunch, cocktails, and dinner from Monday through Thursday. Check the website, http://www.montesmanor.com for specifics. You can also hook up with Monte’s at the Manor on Facebook, and on Instagram (montesmanor). As you can see in the photo above, Monte’s has been fully redecorated to reflect the traditional décor of our grand lobby and to highlight the history of Paul Monte’s family of restauranteurs going back over one hundred years.
Fall in Montauk is also the most popular time for fishing, hiking and biking. The Rental Program has purchased and installed an electric bike charging station at the bike rack in the upper parking lot. For fire safety, electric bikes, scooters and all other battery-operated vehicles are not permitted inside The Manor. With the new charging station, there is no reason to bring them inside. The outdoor security cameras have been adjusted to include the bike rack. Locks and chains are the responsibility of the owners.
The Board of Managers has been meeting regularly by conference calls to handle the business of The Manor. The last meeting was on August 21st. For every Board meeting there are Minutes which include, President’s Report, a Manager’s Report, a Construction Report, a Treasurer’s Report, and a Rental Program Report. Homeowners may view all previous meetings with approved minutes on the Montauk Manor website. The big issue for quite some time has been completing the renovation of the indoor pool. The Town of East Hampton requires separate permits for many of the different aspects of the renovation, and some of these permits require architectural drawings, blueprints, etc. In addition, hiring and coordinating the activities of the various contractors (demolition, plumbing, pool base, pool house, tile work, handicapped access, lockers, heating, to name some) requires much effort and man hours. Many thanks to our Construction Manager and Board Vice President, Don Kershan and our Chief Engineer, Jim Hackett who have been overseeing this complex task from the start.
As reported in the June Castlegram, due to popular demand, the Board of Managers has moved the Annual Homeowners Meeting, Board Elections and Wine Tasting Party from June to December. This year the date is SATURDAY DECEMBER 9th. Don’t forget to reserve your unit. The Lobby will be decorated in full holiday splendor and the complimentary Holiday Party will include wine tasting, passed appetizers and a light dinner buffet. All homeowners will receive an invitation plus meeting and election information in a few weeks.
We hope to see you on December 9th.
Best wishes,
The Board of Managers
